Update on how the Casuals Girls teams got on last weekend in the NLD finals

Quick update on the Nottm Casuals Girls teams results from last weekend’s NLD Cup finals. The Cup had 3 rounds to determine positions and then a finals weekend for the Cup and Shield trophies.

Our fantastic u14 Girls finished TOP ranked team in the NLD. They are a massive squad of 28 players which is a testament to the coaching they get here at Casuals. They were unbeaten throughout the cup campaign all the way to the Final and were unbeaten in regular time... just undone by a score in golden point extra time to lose to Mansfield. Lead Coach John M was "Gutted, but so proud of the team".

The u16s finished highest ranked in the NLD Shield and won their Semi Final game last weekend against Gainsborough. The final was against Long Eaton and the game was a cracking one. It was end to end Rugby with both teams defending and attacking well in equal measure. The game ebbed and flowed and Long Eaton finished the first half 0-5 up.

In the 2nd half Casuals scored a try but missed the conversion, only to concede an unconverted try again shortly afterwards. Long Eaton didn’t deserve to lose the game, they played excellently, particularly their impressive 8. However, with the last play of the 2nd half Casuals ran a wonderful series of passes and broke through to level the scores at 10-10. It came down the last kick of normal time, which our full back converted under huge pressure. Respectful but passionate celebrations followed as the Casuals u16s took in the win, they were the NLD u16s Shield winners!

The U18s joined up with Derbyshire Dragon’s in the campaign and finished 2nd in the Cup rankings. This meant a tough game against Mansfield in the final, but, the Girls played beyond their own expectations and the game finished 53-31. Coaches Brelly & Bob Parry said they were incredibly proud of how they did.

Overall, we hope the Club is proud of our fantastic Girls section, next time they’re serving you food on a Saturday take a second to wish them well!
